Item#1134 – 1854 N-22 R3+ PCGS graded MS64 RED, CAC Approved
Superb RED N-22
The obverse is frosty bright original mint red while the reverse is a more mellowed shade of red, and both sides are quite lustrous. A very impressive piece that has outstanding eye appeal. The only marks are a few tiny specks of dark steel toning including one in the dentils at star 2 and another just right of star 9, plus a small collection of microscopic planchet flakes on the jawline near the throat, as struck. M-LDS, die state b early. The die line from the upper right of the 4 is quite faint, nearly gone (only visible thanks to the superior grade of this cent). Ted Naftzger graded this cent MS68. Our grade is MS65, CC#1 in the Grellman census. A superb cent that comes with an important provenance. The attribution and Great Pacific Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. The only RD graded at PCGS for the variety.
