Item#1130 – 1854 N-20 R3 PCGS graded MS64 Red & Brown
Second Finest N-20
Stray 1 in Dentils. Lustrous bright mint red mellowing to light steel brown on the highpoints with 80% of the mint color remaining on both sides. A wonderful cent that had to be close to receiving an “RD” grade from PCGS. The only marks are a spot of darker toning (not carbon) near the dentils right of star 13 and a smaller one over star 10. A tiny low spot (die clog) weakens the upper right part of the E in CENT but everything else is nicely struck. LDS, die state b. The fields are covered with fine radial flowlines and the earlier die line at the throat is gone. The stray 1 at the dentils below the right edge of the 8 is dull but clearly visible. Our grade is MS64+, second finest of the variety but finest of the late die state in the Grellman census. PCGS population 3, 3 finer in 65RB.
