Description
Slightly glossy dark olive brown and chocolate with lighter brown toning on the highpoints. Covered with fine granularity, and a few small areas of shallow pitting are located mostly off the chest of the horse and at the top of the reverse. No verdigris or notable signs of contact. Very late die state with heavy swelling from the rim just left of the date to the first A in CAESAREA. The swelling obliterates the 1 in the date but the other digits are readable. Called “The Drunken Die Cutter Obverse” because of the rather haphazard positioning of the numerals in the date. Weight 158.0 grains.
Year – 1786
Variety – Maris 19-m
