Description
NGC authenticated and graded MS 62. Frosty medium gray with lighter silver on the highpoints. Struck on a large planchet and the only flaw is a fissure at the first S in MASATHVSETS. A beautiful piece with just a hint of friction on the very highest points of the devices. The date and tree are bold and most of the legend is clear. A premium example of this very rare variety, and it comes with a superb provenance. The attribution and Garrett-Salmon Collection provenance are noted on the NGC label. Large Tree variety. Listed on page 36 in the 2023 “Redbook.” Weight 70.2 grains.
Ex; George H. Earle, Henry Chapman 6/25/1912 – Colonel James W. Ellsworth – John Work Garrett, Bowers & Ruddy 11/1/1980:1216 – Christopher J. Salmon
