Very sharp deep chocolate brown. Virtually flawless in terms of marks. A
trace of granularity on the reverse. A great date or type coin.
FOURTH FINEST KNOWN 1794

1794
S-45 R5+ VF20 $12,500
Sharpness EF45, but most of the obverse has been burnished in an attempt to
remove a few contact marks, the smoothing most evident in the field under the
cap and around the pole where it exits the neck. The only burnishing done to the
reverse was in small areas to remove a nick at the base of the U and to remove a
couple nicks over N in ONE and under O in OF. The planchet is hard and glossy,
completely free of any roughness or defects. The only notable contact marks are
a nick in the dentils under the 9 and a rim bruise just left of the fraction.
Glossy chocolate and darker steel brown. LDS, Breen state II. The arc die crack
at ICA and the fraction is clear. Called AU50 net VF25 and tied for CC#4 in the
Bland census. Ex. Michael R. Kirzner 2/71-Denis W. Loring 2/71-John W.

1794 S-54 R3
F15 $ 2,200
Five points sharper, but there are a few small rim nicks or rim bruises on
each side, including several over RTY and a few more at D-STATE. Surfaces and
eye appeal of this cent are quite nice for the grade. Glossy chocolate.
1794 S-58 R3
VF20 $ 2,250
VF30 Chocolate and tan. The surfaces are smooth, but lightly marked. Small
rim marks K8 obverse, K12 reverse. Later die state. The die crack at UNI has
begun to fill in.
1794 S-60 R3
VG8 $ 850
The obverse is very slightly better and the reverse a bit weaker. Glossy
medium brown and light chocolate. The obverse is choice. The reverse is decent
but does have a thin planchet void from the N in UNITED to the left side of the
ribbon bow. Rare with this color and surface.
