1794 C-4b R7 AG3. Blundered Large Edge Letters. A couple points sharper but the fields and protected areas are covered with very fine porosity. No verdigris or notable marks. Cleaned, now mostly retoned steel brown with very faded red showing through on both sides. The edge letters are strong and blundered, reading “TWO HUNDRED R A DOLLAR”. One of only 8 known of this variety, and probably unique with the blundered edge letters. Weight 94.4 grains. Rod Widok cherrypicked two coins within a short period in 1990. This one had been holed near the rims on both sides of the portrait. Ken Seachman had it “expertly repaired.” Manley state 1.0. Ex Rod Widok 7/90-Ken Seachman, M&G Auctions/Superior 2/20/05:1070-David Greene-Chris McCawley-Michael Spurlock.
M&G assessment: Concur. Sharpness G5, net AG3. The repairs are barely visible, even when you know where to look.

1794 C-8 R5 F12. The surfaces are a pleasing chocolate brown with only the usual circulation marks associated with the grade. Breen die state II. Manley recorded this as state 1.0 with no evidence of a crack that later appeared through the second T of STATES. This appears to be Breen state II, but may be his state III. The reverse is rotated a few degrees CCW. Centering on the obverse is excellent while the reverse is slightly off to the right, with a wide left side border over UNITED ST. At the right reverse the border is essentially gone. Although not a condition census candidate, this example is much nicer than most of the variety. Weight 104.9 grains. Placed 6th in the 2006 EAC Half Cent Happening for the variety. Removed from an NGC slab graded F15 (#656371-013). Ex Crystal Coin Shop-Jim McGuigan 6/16/84-Jules Reiver, Heritage 1/24/06:19013-Michael Spurlock.
M&G assessment: VG10. Glossy dark chocolate brown with decent surfaces and no significant marks.
