1832 C-3 R2 AU55. Choice color and surfaces. The obverse has reflective areas, especially around the stars. The uppermost hair shows a light rub. There is a very faint hairline near star 5. The reverse shows signs of wear on the highpoints of the leaves and lettering. There are a couple of microscopic nicks below the horizontal bar. Manley state 1.0. 1833 C-1 R1 MS64. Gem brilliant uncirculated. Virtually full mint red color shows, just the faintest bit of mellowing on the highest points. A wealth of original frosty luster bathes the surfaces. A forceful strike has imparted razor sharp details. The coin has been well preserved and is void of meaningful imperfections. The above mentioned traits combine for a monstrous level of eye appeal. A small spot between the T & E in STATES is the only notable mark. Manley state 2.0 with smooth, slightly reflective fields on both sides. Ex Stack’s 11/8/06:2357-Michael Spurlock.
M&G assessment: Concur. 75% of the bright mint color remains on the obverse, 85% on the reverse. A gorgeous half cent, very close to gem status.
1833 C-1 R1 MS63. Sharply struck with especially strong definition in the centers. The surfaces are light even brown with faint traces of mint red still evident around portions of the obverse and reverse peripheries. A superior type coin and one that shows no abrasions or spots on either side. This is the single finest 1833 half cent thus far certified by either service with brown surfaces. Choice. Prooflike. Manley state 2.0. Removed from an NGC slab graded MS67BN (#959088-001, population 1/0). Also removed from a PCGS slab graded MS66BN (#60224232, population 4/0). Ex Bowers & Merena 7/30/02:15-Heritage 3/24/05:5051-Michael Spurlock.
M&G assessment: MS64. Very attractive. The obverse has traces of mint color and the reverse displays 5% of the faded mint red.
1834 C-1 R1 MS63. Choice. Prooflike. Manley state 1.0. Removed from an NGC slab graded MS66BN (#571721-001, population 4/0). This coin placed 5th at the 2006 EAC Half Cent Happening. Ex Aspen Park Coins 5/13/05-Michael Spurlock.
M&G assessment: Concur. Has the look of a proof with nice mirrors on both sides. A tiny tick on the throat is the only defect.
1835 C-1 R1 MS64. Typically bold with smooth, faded amber surfaces. Occasional flecks of carbon blend nicely with the toning and demonstrate originality and fail to be a distraction. Traces of expected die clashing are noted on both sides. Choice. Manley state 1.0. Removed from a PCGS slab graded MS65RB (#3633852, population 14/0). Ex Heritage 1/4/06:531-Michael Spurlock.
M&G assessment: MS63+. Nearly half the original mint red remains.
1835 C-2 R1 MS63. Mint red just beginning to turn brown. Brilliant cartwheel luster front and back. A very light abrasion is visible on the chin only under bright light. Devices and letters on the reverse have turned to light brown. Two small toning spots are visible under ITE in UNITED. Manley state 3.0. Ex Superior 2/5/06:83-Michael Spurlock.
M&G assessment: Concur. Close to MS64 but there are some small stains on the reverse. Half the mint color remains on the obverse, nearly that much on the reverse.
