LATEST STATE 1833 N-6
1833 N-6 R1 PCGS MS66BN $ 3,250
Highly lustrous bluish steel and chocolate brown with traces of faded mint color peeking through in protected areas on the obverse. The surfaces are satiny and exceptionally attractive in spite of a few trivial marks. A small spot of slightly darker toning in the field under star 12 and darker toning on the berry right of the T in CENT are the only marks visible without a strong glass. LDS with a small cud break filling the space between the two die cracks through the bottom of the N in UNITED. The fields on both sides are smooth in this die state thanks to a fresh die lapping that removed nearly all the roughness except for traces connecting stars 305. Called MS65 choice and tied for CC#2 in the Noyes census, his photo #28846. Our grade is MS64. PCGS Population 1;none finer. Ex. Sol Kaplan-Abe Kosoff-American Coin Co,-Gordon J. Wrubel-Jerry A. 1835 N-9 R4 PCGS AU53 $ 2,850
Head of 1834 with Large 8 and Stars. Glossy light chocolate brown mixed with slightly darker chocolate toning on the obverse. The surfaces are smooth, but there are three old scratches on the obverse and two on the reverse. These are located high on the neck, along the dentil tips under star 3, above star 4, at EN in CENT, down from the O in ONE, and between the R & I in AMERICA. The scratches all blend perfectly into the attractive toning but they do catch your eye. M-LDS with a very strong die crack through the tops of ERIC to the rim at either end plus an extension up from between the E & R to the rim above. The section outside the crack is depressed as a sunken retained cud, strongest over the E. A rare intermediate die state, tied for finest of the state according to the Noyes census. Called EF45 net VF30 and tied for CC#7 overall in the Noyes census, his photo #28728. Bland says VF35 and tied for CC#4. Our grade is EF40 net VF30. PCGS Population 1; 1 finer in 58. Ex. J. W.
