1850 N-7 R2 MS63   Frosty mint red fading to steel brown on the highpoints. About 80% mint red remaining. Near gem and would grade higher except for a couple of carbon spots on the wreath. M-LDS.  $750

1851 N-20  R5+  MS64    Bright original mint red just starting to fade to light steel brown on the highpoints, at least 75% of the original color remaining. The surfaces are lustrous and virtually flawless except for a light nick on the rim under the first one and another in the field under the hair bun. A shallow low spot (from debris on the die) covers most of the neck as struck. Otherwise this cent is gem. LDS die state c (Newcomb's old #28). Tied for CC #1 and this example has considerably more mint red.    $2,250

1854 N-26  R3+ MS60+    80% original red. A choice example except for some splashes of dark olive toning that contain traces of carbon as well.    $775
