1848 N-3 R2 MS62               $950

Lustrous light bluish steel brown with 5% of the red remaining. The surfaces are satiny and very attractive, but there is some strike weakness at the curl on the forehead and on several leaves in the wreath, a result of shallow low spots caused by crud on the dies. There is a very small scuff under the E in CENT and a tiny planchet flake just off the stem tip. EDS, die state a. The fine die polishing lines are clear and the date repunching is sharp. Tied for CC#5 in the Grellman census. Removed from an NGC slab graded MS64BN (NGC label included). DWH #2087.

Ex Dan Walker, McCawley & Grellman Auctions 8/19/95:424-R. S. Brown, Jr., McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Superior 6/2/2002:498.
