Lustrous bluish steel brown with 5% of the red
remaining on the obverse, 35% on the reverse. There is a very faint
vertical scuff in the field right of star 3, a barely visible
hairline scratch over that star, and a couple dull ticks on the top
edge of the ear. Otherwise this cent is choice and the eye appeal
remains outstanding for the grade. Sharp EDS, die state a,
with many fine die polishing lines in the obverse fields and minor
die rust near the dentils at stars 2-5. The fine die line from the
first S in STATES to the E in CENT is clear. CC#3 overall but finest
of the early state, and only 3 mint state examples are known for
this scarce variety. DWH #2098. |
