Item#1143 – 1854 N-27 R3 PCGS graded MS63 Red & Brown, CAC Approved
Rare Early State N-27
Glossy olive and bluish steel brown with 25% of the planchet covered with mellowing mint red, mostly on the obverse. Essentially flawless except for a shallow low spot that covers the cheek and neck (caused by debris/lubricant on the die). The only mark, and it is trivial, is a speck of dark toning at the dentil tips right of star 6. Rare EDS, die state a, with the top of a stray 1 on top of the 8 and without the usually seen spur from the top of the hair bun. Our grade is MS63, CC#3 for the variety and second finest of the early die state in the Grellman census. PCGS population 1, 3 finer in RB.
